"Ekone Kids are high minded, bless my soul they're double jointed, they work hard and don't mind it, all day long!"  

This was the song that accompanied the dishwashing this morning, and despite the summer heat, spirits were high all day.   I am sometimes amazed by the amount of energy these children have, what is there secret!?!?

Our theme this week seems to be "exploration"; the curious and multi-dimensional investigation of all the different experiences to be found here at camp. From the flora and fauna around the ranch to new riding skills to cooking projects to reflection circles, this camp wants to jump right in and figure it all out.

Yesterday the ranch welcomed our first group of excited, energetic Ekone Kids! It seems like we have been waiting ages for the children to arrive, and now that they have summer has truly begun.

After catching up with old friends--who've grown up so much in the last year!--and meeting some new friends, we headed down the Ekone Creek drainage for a fun afternoon of swimming, games, and catching garter snakes. 

Well, the strawberries are starting to go crazy here at Ekone, and eveneryone is so excited for summer camp to begin! The horses gather at the gate every morning, looking down the driveway and wondering, "Is it time yet? When are the children going to come?" We have a good crew here to help spiff up the lodge, put the finishing touches on the newly remodeled longhouse, plan some of the exciting activities for this summer, and help us eat all these strawberries!
