Following this week’s theme, we have been creating many things of beauty…

And like true Ekone Kids, finding beauty in unexpected places!
We started the week by building some bat houses from the beautiful blue pine lumber harvested off the land, which the kids later decorated with wood stamps. The bats seem to be quite enjoying their new homes, and are rewarding us by eating second and third helpings of mosquitoes every night!

This week we have also been working on batiking some very beautiful prayer flags, and creating “recycled fashion” and other works of art from found objects. We all love the magic of watching odds and ends come together into a piece of art; it is pretty amazing what can be made from discarded milk labels, old nuts and bolts, chicken wire, yogurt container lids, and other treasures. Each new discovery of an odd-shaped button or an old fork sparks the imagination, and leads to ever greater and more inspired works of genius...we'll let you know when we've managed to build the first time machine!
Well, the hay truck gets in early tomorrow, so we'd better sign off for now. Good night!
As always, please feel free to email any comments or questions to summercamp@ekone.org.
