Wrangler Camp

Wrangler Camp is designed to give our more advanced riders an intensive riding and ranch experience. Wranglers will hone their horsemanship skills, explore more advanced trails, and participate in horse training.  Wranglers will help plan the week’s activities, including meals, work projects, and a special adventure that may include an overnight pack trip, a visit to our best local horsetrainer, an excursion to a new spot on Rock Creek Canyon, or another adventure we haven’t dreamed up yet!

These advanced sessions provide all the fun and adventure that Ekone camps are known for, as well as a more nuanced and age-appropriate focus on developing self-confidence, competence, and a sense of purpose in the world. Campers will have the opportunity to work both individually and collectively on gaining new skills and facing challenges, as well as have time for guided self-reflection and deepening their connection to the land and to their community.

During our reflections and solo time, we might think about questions like:  How can we be energetic in ways that build confidence and competence in both ourselves and our community?  How can we make our voices heard in respectful ways that also make room for other voices, and work towards a valuable conversation?  How can we express our inner fire and unconquerable drive towards being someone and doing something in creative, thoughtful ways that are useful in making the world a better place?

Wrangler Camp is by application only, to help us ensure that all participants are ready for this challenging, adventurous program.  Applicants must be aged 13-18 and have at least two years of riding experience and at least one prior Ekone Horse Camp session.  To apply, complete the full online registration process, including these two advanced-camp questions:

–What skills and insights are you hoping to gain from this camp, and/or what challenges are you hoping to face?

–What attributes will you bring to the group dynamic to help build a great camp community?

We will confirm all applicants by April 30 at the latest.

New in 2017:  TWO SESSIONS of Wrangler Camp!  We hope that some Wranglers will stay over for both weeks, but each session will also stand alone as complete and wonderful Ekone experiences.

June 25 – July 1        Ages: 13-18              Tuition: $1100

July 2 – July 8           Ages: 13-18              Tuition: $1100

Note that Wrangler Camp sessions are limited to 12 campers, and run concurrently to other camp tracks.  The first Wrangler session runs parallel to the Young Riders track of horse-crazy 8-11 year olds.  The second Wrangler session is parallel to a Homestead Camp, ages 10-18.  Wranglers will be largely on their own program and in their own cohort, but will share meals, facilities, and perhaps some activities with the other campers at the ranch as well.
